Story

A lightweight version of our OG Free Ways. Built around the same roomy yet tapered silhouette of those heavy shorts, but stripped down for a lighter, freer mobility. The biggest change is in the fabric, the Ultras are built around our Ultralight Doubleweave, which at 140gsm weighs in a whole 100gsm less than the OG Cloth used in the original Free Ways. But while it's damn light, it's also full featured, with a four-way stretch, a tight water-resistant nylon face and a soft three-dimensional interface of micro nylon. A NanoSphere treatment helps keep them clean and dry, allowing them to double as a fantastic swim short.

Stylistically, they stay rather true to the original Free Ways with a few key upgrades. The integrated waistband and gussetted crotch are still there, allowing for the same roomy yet tapered silhouette. We removed the belt loops, though, as we found it allowed us to better wear these as swim shorts under a pair of pants. We also swapped in a flatter core-less internal drawstring and a lightweight, stretchy power mesh pocketing. Lighter, faster, cleaner. You know the drill, most of that is on you, but we keep trying to make better products so you look good in action.

Fabric

Ultralight Cloth is soft and flexible with an elegant drape. Durable for its weight (145gsm) and rated UPF 50+, it's meant to handle the summer with ease.

The Ultralight Cloth is a yarn-dyed doublewoven intimate blend of various nylons. The micro-nylon fibers create a soft loose inner weave that helps pull moisture from the skin, while slightly thicker nylon is tightly woven on the outside to give it a degree of water resistance. The self-cleaning NanoSphere® treatment adds in some wine, beer and iced coffee resistance. A four-way stretch means you'll move with a breezy freedom all across a beautiful summer.

We wanted to see how this fabric handles sunlight, specifically UV radiation, so we sent it out for testing. The results show that a single layer of Ultralight Cloth blocks the transmittance of over 99% of UV radiation, giving the Ultralight Cloth an Ultraviolet Protection Factor of 50+, the highest rating possible.
