- Story
- Merino is nature’s finest performance fabric. It’s great at regulating
temperatures, managing moisture and odor to keep you comfortable in day to
day wear. There are times, though, when you’re going to heat up and sweat
through whatever you’re wearing. Although merino still breathes while wet,
the weight of a saturated shirt while running through the summer got us
thinking. What could make merino better for sweaty high exertion use without
sacrificing performance?
Our search brought us to what became our Runweight Merino, a nicely balanced 150gsm fabric made from a specially commissioned intimate blend of 50% 17.5 micron merino and 50% thermobuffering polyester to merge the performance of both. Wicking polyesters have long dried super fast making them great in the heat of action, but that wicking quickly turns cold as you cool down, we needed a poly that could mirror merino’s incredible temperature range. We found our answer in a new blend that twists traditional channeled wicking filaments together with hollow core ones to create a thermobuffering effect. It pairs perfectly with merino to create a quick drying fabric with a beautiful temperature range, hand feel and performance.
The Runweight Merino Long Sleeve has a moderately lean cut that’s long enough to keep you covered in action. Also available as short sleeve t-shirt, v-neck or sleeveless. - Fabric

Our Runweight Merino is built around a specially commissioned intimate 50/50 blend of 17.5 micron merino and a thermobuffering polyester. It's designed to handle high heat, high intensity efforts with comfort and ease. At 150gsm, it’s lightweight but still structured enough to have an elegant drape.
We’ve long been fans of merino. No other natural fiber has the ability to manage temperature, moisture, and odor quite like it, but we were interested in seeing if we could find anything that would work with merino to handle situations where you’re bound to create more moisture than merino can handle. Something that could wick and cool more effectively without compromising the characteristics of merino that we love so much. We honed in on a thermobuffering poly that blends hollow core and channeled polyester fibers. The hollow core fibers are meant to buffer fluctuations in temperature while the channeled fibers wick moisture over a larger surface area for faster drying and evaporative cooling.
The result of combining this is two fibers blended together to compliment the performance of each other with minimal compromise. The strength of polyester allows us to use a lighter merino, resulting in a fabric that is 25% lighter than that used in our Ultrafine Merino T-Shirts, while still having the strength, structure and drape we demand.
In the end, our Runweight Merino brings the lushness and soft comfort of merino along with the performance and dry comfort of thermobuffering polyester. It’s engineered innovation integrated with nature’s finest performance fabric. - Details
