Story

Sometimes the most obvious insights are sitting right in front of you. Our OG Cloth is what we used in both our very first pants and very first shorts. As a pants fabric it's decidedly middleweight, versatile and capable of being worn year round. As shorts fabric it is the heavyweight champ, with a substantive form masked by its incredible four-way stretch and doubleweave features. Like a superstar athlete it breathes and moves like a far lighter fabric, but with all the strength and durability that extra mass provides.

The OG Free Ways were built from the ground up to make a zero compromise 21st century short. We started with an integrated waistband construction designed to maximize movement. There is a full length crotch gusset that allows us to mildly taper the leg opening while leaving loads of breathing room up top. There is an internal milspec paracord drawstring in the waistband for swimming, belt loops for more aggressive wear, a custom Italian poly slot button at the fly and an integrated key loop at the rear of the waistband.

The 2019 version features a fresh iteration of flow through pockets using the brand new Overkill Mesh. This Italian knit nylon stretch mesh is something else entirely. At 260gsm this is some serious mesh, it is thick and plush enough that it’s almost opaque when relaxed but is clearly a mesh when stretched out. At 16% elastane it has some very serious stretch, but more importantly it has some very serious snap. This makes it an incredibly stable pocketing. Unlike lighter meshes, objects in Overkill Mesh pockets do not tend to bounce. Of course water flows right through it, but ultimately the best thing about the Overkill Mesh is how it feels. Super smooth like a woven yet with a plush three dimensionality like a spacer mesh made soft. Is it overkill to use this stuff in a pair of shorts? Maybe, but damn does it feel good.

The result is a technical shorts silhouette built with zero compromise. This short is not for everyone, but for those that want the hardcore best, this is the real deal.

Fabric

Our core OG Cloth: breathable, comfortable and durable, the most versatile fabric around. The self-cleaning nanosphere treatment means that coffee, wine and dirt roll off with ease, keeping you looking fresh and clean in the trickiest of situations. The Schoeller Dryskin Extreme fabric looks elegant, yet repels water. But when it does saturate, it will dry in minutes (generally around 15-20). The doubleweave structure means it's tough and durable on the exterior, yet soft and comfortable inside. The four way stretch doubles-down on that comfort and moves freely through any situation.


A dense and plush nylon stretch-mesh, knit in Italy. At 260gsm it’s quite substantive for a mesh, making it seriously durable. With 16% elastane its got some major snap, meaning it can stretch in size, but can constrain items in place almost as well as a non-stretch fabric. This makes it the optimal stretch for rear pockets. Stretchy enough to expand but tight enough to prevent items from bouncing. Similarly it is open enough to allow water to pass through freely but dense enough to feel almost smooth to the touch, and more importantly, unlike most meshes it feels smooth when you sit on it. Ultimately what makes this stuff worth the overkill is the shear tactile emotion of it, a tight compact smooth yet forgiving touch like nothing else out there.
