- Story
- We’ve always loved classic British duffles, but if there was ever a coat in
need of liberation, this is the one.
We started with weight. A classic duffle gets its warmth and weather resistance from sheer bulk. We love the classic wool look, but knew we could radically improve it. The Liberated Wool fabric is a four-way stretch woven wool bonded to a light weight fleece interior using a proprietary water and wind resistant, yet breathable, polyurethane film. This means we could shed all the bulk and weight of a classic melton while staying just as warm and weather ready. Perhaps more importantly, the four-way stretch enables an incredible freedom of movement that just wasn’t possible before.
Then there is the toggle, the trademark of a duffle, if you will. In theory, the duffle toggle was designed to be an easier closure system, in practice it’s actually worse. We needed to fix that, so we turned to Fidlock’s mag-mech closures. We’ve used them in bags before, but historically they’ve been too bulky for extensive garment use. When Fidlock showed us a new slimline form designed for motorcycle helmets, we knew we could take it there. We dove right in, took those closures and developed a magnomechanical closure system that can be used one handed, yet remains secure as you move freely.
The result is both a far cleaner, simpler look and a cleaner, simpler way of use. In other words, a better dufflecoat. - Fabric
-
A wool coat fabric reconstructed for versatility, comfort and motion. A 2.5 layer construction with a yarn dyed four-way stretch wool outer and soft, breathable fleece interior. Holding them together is a highly water and wind resistant, yet breathable polyurethane bond. The result is a liberating fabric for the cooler seasons. It has great freedom of movement and it's close to weatherproof while being breathable and warm. All without sacrificing any of the good looks of a fine wool jacket fabric. - Details
