Story

An experimental Extrafleece-Neoshell grafting. Plush Extrafleece body with Neoshell reinforcement at the shoulders, neck and lower back. Six pockets, two-way zipper, Zero Snap top and Shocktight adjustment system at the neck.

Fabric

There is fleece and there is Extrafleece. Like a teddy bear you can wear, this is the softest, plushest and most exquisite synthetic fleece around. At 510 gsm (15 oz) it's no lightweight, but it piles so thick and deep, it feels airy and special. The secret is a non-traditional use of elastane. Instead of being used to add stretch, elastane is used in the Extrafleece to make it extra compact, creating a deep resiliency. Hug this fleece and it hugs you back.


A heavyweight take on Polartec's highly breathable waterproof Neoshell fabric. Unlike traditional sweaty waterproof technologies the Neoshell membrane is air permeable, allowing for proper circulation around your body for a vastly superior comfort level.

Unlike many Neoshell fabrics, though, the Raincloth is tough stuff. The face fabric is a high tenacity nylon canvas, nothing light about it, nothing stretchy either, just straight up solid, durable and substantive with a dense yet pliable handfeel. The membrane itself is not extruded like traditional garbage bag "waterproof breathable" fabrics, but is instead electrospun using a nonwoven process. This process leaves tiny holes in the polyurethane membrane that are big enough to allow air circulation but small enough that liquid water molecules can not pass. The result is a far more comfortable waterproof and breathable fabric. The third inner layer is a simple yet durable nylon tricot that breathes fantastically while protecting the electrospun membrane. It all adds together to the first genuine breathable waterproof fabric that meets the Outlier standards of highly functional elegance.
