- Story
- When it comes to beach things they don't get much more versatile than this.
Lay out on it like a blanket, the linen sheds sand with a quick flick.
You can use it like a towel of course, linen is super absorbent and retains a dry hand feel even as it saturates. The Grid Linen waffle structure increases surface area so it absorbs more than flatter linen weaves. It also dries faster than cotton and resists mildew too.
Wrap it around and pull up the hood for some light sun protection. It’s bigger than most towels and the hood and shaping make it far more wearable. You can wear any old towel of course but this one actually fits well!
As the temperature cools it becomes super useful as a wrap, providing some lightweight warmth for those seaside evenings and a little bit of modesty too.
More than anything, just use it. This thing was a total surprise for us. We made it as an afterthought, almost as a lark, and then we fought over the sample all summer, because it’s so damn useful at the beach. Simple, lightweight and versatile, pair it with some swim trunks and that might be all that’s needed for the whole summer...
- Fabric
-
Linen has the strongest tensile strength of the plant fibers and is generally considered to be one of the oldest used for textiles. With its low static and pilling it easily weaves an open structure that lets air flow through the fabric. Linen also has the remarkable ability to absorb 20% of its weight of moisture while remaining dry to the touch.
We chose a box weave linen, its three dimensional structure maximizes the surface area of the linen fibers. It absorbs moisture better, dries faster and shrugs off sand and dirt better than a flat weave linen.
High quality linen gets softer and softer over time, and when cared for properly can be handed down through generations.
A note on handling linen properly:
Linen has many times the lateral strength of cotton, which is why it was once used to make ropes; however it is significantly less flexible. In day-to-day use this doesn't make much difference, but in certain conditions, particularly those found in top loading washing machines, it can become a problem. So wash yours in a front loading washer on a gentle cycle and you should be all good. - Details
