- We made this t-shirt because we love merino and wanted to represent it properly. We use 17.5
micron fibers, rather than the 18.9 most brands do, because the finer fibers are softer and just
plain beautiful to touch. We use 195gsm fabric rather than the 150-160gsm most companies do
because it drapes far better, has a wonderful hand feel and is a bit more durable.
We believe that the best way to represent a fabric is as simply as possible and a t-shirt is pretty close to as simple a garment as it gets. We don't get tricky with it, just a moderately lean cut, that's long enough to keep you covered in action. We have it sewn up out in the SF Bay area at a factory with serious merino expertise and it's a wrap.

Merino is in our opinion easily nature's finest performance fabric. We use a Mackenzie 17.5, 195gsm Merino Jersey who’s name stems from the Mackenzie Basin on New Zealand's South Island, where the bulk (but not all) of the merino used is sourced. It's all non-mulesed, farm traceable and certified by AsureQuality. More importantly though the merino is a tight spectrum, low variance, top capped fiber blend. Generally merino micron numbers are generated by averaging a mix of various micron fibers. This means a standard 17.5 micron fabric will actually include much larger fibers in the mix. The Mackenzie blend is tight spectrum and low variance to create a more consistent and precise yarn. More importantly the Mackenzie 17.5 is top capped at 17.5 microns, there are no larger fibers making it a softer and smoother fabric, and in fact the yarns and fabric actually average a number lower than 17.5 micron.
Merino has the incredible ability to suck moisture into the very core of the fiber. This pulls moisture away from your skin cooling you as you exercise, and allows the fabric to keep breathing if it gets wet. As the temperature cools the natural crimps in the fabric insulate you, merino simply is more comfortable in a wider range of temperatures than anything else we know of.
Merino also takes color incredibly, and since it has a natural UV resistance it hardly fades at all. We have four year old, well worn, black merino tees that are still darker and richer in color than brand new cotton ones.
One word of warning though, premium low micron merino is addictive. Once you get a taste of the merino quality it's hard to quit. Luckily its natural bacteriostatic properties make it highly odor resistant. You'll find you can get a lot more wear between washes, a good thing as ultrafine merino does not come cheap. - Details

↗ Mackenzie 17.5 Merino Jersey
This is the good stuff, a subtle yet powerful reformulation of one of our absolute core fabrics, a 17.5 micron merino jersey that we use to make near perfect t-shirts. Knit especially for us by Global Merino using their brand new Mackenzie blend standard that creates a finer and more precisely calibrated merino of unsurpassed quality.
↗ Top Capped & Tight Spectrum
Merino is measured in microns, the smaller the number the finer the fiber and the softer the hand feel (and the higher the price). But until now this number was actually an average, a mixture of different micron fibers that averaged out to the reported value, meaning half the fibers actually are thicker than the rating. Global Merino's Mackenzie Blend is top capped, so the number indicates not the average but the absolute maximum thickness that can be included in the blend. It is also a tight spectrum blend, meaning that there is a very low variance of fiber thickness allowed in the mix. This creates a more stable and predictable fabric with an exceptional hand feel.
↗AsureQuality Traceable
All the merino used in these t-shirts is fully audited and certified by AsureQuality to ensure a pristine supply chain. The fibers can be traced back to the farm (the majority of which are currently in the Mackenzie Basin of New Zealand, hence the fabric name). Global Merino is in direct contact with the growers and only non-mulesed fleece wool is used to create a yarn that's better for everyone from sheep to farmer, from spinner to knitter and from us to you.
↗195 gsm 100% Pure Merino
This is the raw, uncut good shit, precisely calibrated to make the best possible t-shirt. The 2-ply, 17.5 micron merino yarns are incredibly soft but at 195 grams per square meter the fabric is durable enough to wear every day. The fabric is a substantive mid weight for a t-shirt, wearable in the widest range of common temperatures. But it's also the lightest weight we are willing to use for a 100% pure merino knit, as it needs the weight and structure to drape properly. All this nets out to a near perfect t-shirt fabric that many of us wear almost every day of our lives.
↗Nature's Finest Performance Fabric
We've been calling merino "nature's finest performance fabric" for so long other brands have started copying us verbatim. It's all good though, because it's not a tag line it is a statement of fact, especially when talking about the superfine and superwashed type of merino we like to use. Merino has an incredible dry hand feel because it's surface repels water while it simultaneously pull moisture into it's core, creating a dry body climate. This cools you in the heat and insulates you in the cool, allowing you to wear it further and farther in comfort. In addition it is naturally bacteriostatic creating a cleaner fabric that resists odor, allowing for longer use times. We could go on too, it's UV resistant, naturally springy, and phase changes at just above body temperature for extra cooling effects. But ultimately the real way to know the beauty of fine merino is to wear it.
