Story

We grew up wearing Vans and came of age making garments out of Supermarine Cotton®, so combining the two was a natural progression. Outlier at its core is about creating "future classics", so when we got an opportunity to work with a company as classic as Vans we didn't hesitate. The only question was how to get the future to emerge from the now.

Supermarine Cotton is a World War II era fabric with a 21st Century twist. You can think of it as the pinnacle of cotton technology, the last technical cotton design before nylon and polyester took over the performance fabric universe. An extremely dense canvas fabric, using a combination of hi-twist and loose yarns engineered to swell up and seal when exposed to water. The 21st century version utilizes a highly durable water resistant treatment that creates a synergistic effect with the weave, creating a canvas that stays dryer and lighter, perfect for a pair of Vans.

There are no shortages of bona fide classics in the Vans line up, but we weren't there to work with the veterans, we wanted to get down with the rookie of the year. The OTW Bedfords are, in our opinion, the best new model Vans has done in years. Think of it as leaned out Half Cab, mid-rise so water doesn't go over the top, lightly padded for comfort, but with a slimmed down silhouette and perhaps most critically a wider toe box. All of course with a vulcanized OTW sole in Vans' trademarked waffle pattern.

The Supermarine Bedfords feature a Supermarine and suede outer, stainless steel eyelets and a pigskin insole for a drier, more comfortable wear, no matter where you go.
